Ward Churchill is Subject of Provocative New Poem

RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY -- Though she's appalled by his comments about the victims of 9-11, the much published Egyptian-Sudanese-American novelist and poet Kola Boof is also a long time fan of Ward Churchill's more than 20 books and his activism on behalf of people of color and is now set to debut a new poem to protest his firing from the University of Colorado entitled  "Indigenism: White Man/Bare Chest" during her September 16th reading at New York's Schomburg Center.

In an interview with PROOF MAGAZINE, Boof said that Churchill is flat out wrong for his comments relating the victims of 9-11 to Nazis who supported the holocaust, but she said that he's also "a very important artist" and a "good American" and that it's equally wrong for the University of Colorado to "persecute" him over stupid comments he made years ago.  

Unfortunately, Kola Boof is probably the last person that Churchill supporters want in his corner, because she's also the former mistress of Osama Bin Laden, a relationship that took place in 1996 that she has proven was against her will, and she is notoriously unpopular with the media herself.  On top of that, she's been a very vocal supporter of America's war on terrorism and had to live in hiding due to the anti-Arab anti-Muslim themes that pervade her work and her politics.  

Sitll, though Kola Boof's far more likely to be seen as an ally of the very conservatives that despise Ward Churchill (she claims to be a liberal democrat, however, which is what confuses so many people about her), she says that she feels the Professor has a good heart and that his intentions as an activist are gravely misunderstood.

Kola Boof is booked to headline at New York's Schomburg Center on Sept. 16th in the Langston Hughes Auditorium where she will read from several of her books as well as debut the Ward Churchill poem.
