DENVER, CO -- Matt Kelly, a Denver photographer and wedding consultant with AmbiSuite Weddings, explains to his clients that while summer and spring are the most popular wedding seasons, winter weddings are less expensive and can offer some terrific photographic opportunities.
If you're getting married someplace that will have snow, it can add to your photos, notes Kelly, a Denver event planning consultant. A coating of snow softens the look of buildings and trees, gives a sense of stillness, and can provide striking pictures of the bride and groom strolling through the flakes.
Sunlight in the wintertime is weaker, so find a photographer with winter wedding experience. Experienced photographers know how take good photos despite an overcast sky or light reflecting off snow. Winter days are also shorter. Outside shots need to be done before the sun starts setting. An indoor ceremony may not have natural light, so a photographer may be required to set up additional illumination, observes the Denver photography specialist.
In the winter, couples frequently choose a wintry décor with shades of silver, blue, and gold. But many couples are going for bright splashes of color. "Couples who are getting married during Christmastime sometimes use red and green as accent colors," remarks Kelly, a Denver wedding planner.
If a couple is planning to take photos outside, "the bride should get a cape or jacket that matches the wedding gown," advises Kelly, a Denver wedding photography specialist. Save the strappy sandals for indoors; you want sturdier shoes in the snow.
