White uses Google SketchUp, a software tool that allows users to create, modify and share 3D models using a tool-set and intelligent drawing system. The free software is available for download on Windows and Mac.
"Figuring out the fundamentals of SketchUp to create simple furniture plans can be done in a relatively short amount of time," she says. "The community section of my website has forums where members share tips and offer advice on woodworking products."
This is her process for taking an idea and making it a reality:
• Get inspiration by browsing furniture trends.
• Break the piece down into the raw materials.
• Create a detailed plan: exact dimensions, materials, cuts and assembly process.
• Collect materials and tools.
• Begin building.
• Create Google SketchUp plan and submit to site.
"What works for me is to draw the furniture plans exactly how I would build the actual piece of furniture," White says.

Members submit original plans and photos of the projects, and other custom furniture makers add comments and advice.
