Detroit International Auto Salon to Donate Proceeds Helping Sichuan Earthquake
Jun 10, 2008
ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN -- The Detroit International Auto Salon (DIAS) confirmed today that a percentage of sales proceeds will be donated to the victims of the recent Sichuan, China earthquake catastrophe. The earthquake measured 7.9 on the Richter scale, has left thousands homeless, and about 70,000 dead according to media sources.
"Our hearts go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy," said Michael Wesney, President of DIAS, " We pledge to donate 2% of our exhibition booth sales through April 23, 2009. We hope these funds will provide some measure in lessening the pain of this horrible event in China." He further explained that information about how these donations will be done is detailed at www.detroitautosalon.com/Visitors/news.
"Although this earthquake happened in early May, we know that the effects and the financial burden can be very long lasting, said Eric Huang, Chairman of DIAS. "Even today, the people affected by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina here in the U.S. are still suffering, that is why our commitment for the Sichuan earthquake victims will last for a year," he said.
The donation will be transferred through the Michigan Chinese Foundation (MCF), a charitable service organization serving the Michigan community since 1992, to the Chinese Red Cross for distribution. " The Detroit International Auto Salon is very generous to provide donations to this worthy cause and help relieve the pain felt by the recent earthquake victims in China, " said Dr. Qian Yang, Chairman of MCF, " The charity of DIAS and all of the other fine organizations and donations that have flowed in shows that we are all linked together in one world."
