AUSTIN, TEXAS -- In a recent workshop held in the Furama Riverfront Hotel in Singapore, Asian business executives evaluated and gave high marks to the Integrated Enterprise Excellence (IEE) system, a new enterprise management system developed by Austin, TX management guru and author Forrest Breyfogle.
Introduced in a two-day workshop, "Achieving Integrated Enterprise Excellence - Beyond Six Sigma and the Balanced Scorecard" IEE incorporates the best practices of Lean Six Sigma and other improvement project systems in a system for management at the enterprise level.
After identifying barriers between departments as one of the major challenges of modern organizational structures, the executives were introduced to the IEE methods for improvement. Ad hoc teams competed in role-playing practical exercises to demonstrate the positive effect of IEE practices. Evaluating the results, participants credited IEE with greatly reducing barriers and getting teams to work on common goals. According to AK Sekar, ASEAN Process Improvement Manager, "The training session conducted by Smarter Solutions is organization-wide focused". Other management systems frequently "focus on individual projects which sometimes leads to sub-optimizing the efforts".
According to Breyfogle, "performance statements are important to drive the right behaviors throughout the organization; however, traditional approaches such as red-yellow-green balanced scorecards and bar-chart comparisons can drive very detrimental behavior". Recognizing the need for improvement is a first step. "Better performance measurement and reporting is needed at all levels of the organization."
