YPSILANTI, MICHIGAN -- Recently, in two separate incidences, a stranger walked into a large Ann Arbor office building late in the afternoon before the building was locked down for the night. Carrying a large plastic trash bag, he entered offices posing as part of the cleaning staff and asked to empty the trash. A laptop was later reported missing.
In response to these reported events, and the growing concern on the part of its Customers, Populist Cleaning Co, has instituted a mandatory uniform policy. Bright red shirts with the company logo now will instantly identify Populist staff. Additionally, if there is further question as to whether a specific person is a part of the cleaning crew, each Populist staff member is also required to carry a company identification card.
"Today's janitorial company needs to do much more than remove trash and clean toilets," says Mike Eller, President of Populist Cleaning Co. "Highly portable and expensive electronics along with increasing issues surrounding identity and confidentiality present significant security concerns in many facilities."
Populist Cleaning Co. has a longstanding formal application process that includes an extensive interview, and criminal background check. Lastly, each member of Populist's staff is instructed in the proper handling of exposure to sensitive information and must sign a strict confidentiality agreement before being placed at a job site.
Populist Cleaning Co. has become one of the premier commercial cleaning and facilities maintenance companies in the Ann Arbor Area. Founded in 1980, the company's belief in quality service and strong communication with the Customer has been the foundation of its achievements.
