Bolding Going Where Never Been Before

Aug 25, 2008

NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA -- You would have to have been living under a rock to not notice the earthquake that has shaken the real estate market in the United States. From California to Main and Michigan to Florida houses are taking longer to sell. Everyone agrees that the real estate market is only going through a period of intense adjustment but may already be normalizing. However, not everyone agrees on how to survive in the short term "aftershocks" still rippling through the market. One real estate investor is taking a lesson from Wall Street on diversification.

According to real estate investor Jamie Garrett the most difficult part of managing your risk in a real estate portfolio is fighting the urge to invest in your own local market. This urge to invest in your own market is easily understandable but works against the principal of market diversification. Garrett however believes that he can diversify his business by turning to the World Wide Web where he hopes to augment his real estate portfolio.

"I figure that right now is the best time to invest in real estate if you find the deals but without being able to move any existing inventory or refinance I have to get creative. That is why I started selling non-real estate related products online. I gain product diversification and geographical diversification while generating cash flow to reinvest in my existing business. "
