Eight Essex County Workforce Staff Complete Certification Training

NEWARK, NJ -- Eight staff members for Newark and Essex County workforce agencies completed certification training as Global Career Development Facilitators (GCDF) Instructors.  The course consists of a minimum 120 hours of study and is designed for individuals who assist others with career development.  Upon completion of the training, completers are eligible for the internationally recognized GCDF certification through the Center for Credentialing and Education.  The training is designed for both front-line staff and program administrators in a variety of settings.

In-depth course content includes coverage of:

  • career planning processes
  • career and labor market information and resources
  • basic helping and facilitation skills
  • career development models and theories
  • formal and informal assessment approaches in career development
  • case management and referral skills
  • exploring diversity and specific population needs
  • training skills and program promotion
  • ethical and scope of practice issues
  • preparation and development of materials for training programs and presentations
  • program management and implementation
  • understanding and use of computers in cutting-edge job search and career development applications
  • WIA and One-Stop Center development and more


"The GCDF curriculum is designed for professionals and paraprofessionals who work in all kinds of settings" said Anna D. Banks, GCDF, and an Adjunct Professor at Essex County College.  "Present-day career-oriented programs require staff with current knowledge and skills in career development and job opportunities.  This program allows for workforce staff to attain a competency level in the facilitation of these career development opportunities for our customers through the workforce centers."

Program completers below are Mary Alexander, Amanze Okere, Ellen Ugdag-Gningue, and Jeff Welsh, who are Essex County Department of Training & Employment employees.  Anna D. Banks, Adjunct Professor & Job Readiness Trainer at Essex County College also completed the course along with Patricia Cobb-Latham, Phyllis Walker, and Rhonda Wise with Newark One-Stop services.  All are also based in the Newark and Essex County Workforce region. Patricia Cooper, GCDF and President of 1st-Source Solubions served as Program Consultant.
