Learn How to Cook Fast and Healthy Gourmet Meals

Jan 03, 2008

WEST BLOOMFIELD, MICHIGAN -- Many may have the misconception that in order to eat healthy, you must settle for tasteless meals consisting of foods that don't provide the delectability or sustenance one might be used to. Well, Michigan Health Coach, a company that offers weight loss counseling, wants to change that perception through its "Fast and Healthy Cooking" classes.

"Fast and Healthy Cooking" is an effort that is made possible by Cheryl Heppard, (owner and founder of Michigan Health Coach), and Matt Schellig, (owner and founder of the restaurant the classes are being held in, Aunt Olives Good Food 2 Go). The pair teamed up because Cheryl needed a venue through which she could teach her clients how to cook healthy. Matt agreed because he enjoys sharing his cooking knowledge. It also gives students a chance to see what his restaurant has to offer.

"We specialize in healthy, gourmet comfort food. We make the kind of food that'll make Mom proud. Flavorful pot-pies, mouth-watering sandwiches, delicious salads, and the world's best mac and cheese. Well, we think it's the world's best... we invite you to try it and make up your own mind!" Notes Matt Schellig in reference to the types of food he prepares for the class and his restaurant in general.

The classes themselves will feature a variety of gourmet food. Each month Cheryl and Matt will showcase meals according to different themes. One month you could learn about how to cook ethnic meals, while the next month you could learn about how to cook heart-healthy meals.

When the class is over, students will be treated to the meal that was prepared along with a refreshing glass of wine. They will also be provided with free recipes. Ultimately, they will gain new knowledge while enjoying a delicious gourmet dinner. They can continue the fun through a private in-home cooking class, a service also offered by Cheryl and Matt.

The classes are held the first Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The location of the Aunt Olives Good Food 2 Go restaurant is in downtown Birmingham. As far as the cost, expect to pay $40 per person if you pre-register and $50 per person if you attend the session at the door.
