CHICAGO, IL -- Recently, the National Institutes of Health released the results of a study indicating that the weight gained during the holidays is a major contributing factor to the obesity epidemic in the U.S. According to Dr. Jack Yanovski, M.D., Ph.D. of the NIH, "Although an average holiday weight gain may seem unimportant, that weight was not lost during the remainder of the year." "These findings suggest that developing ways to avoid holiday weight gain may be extremely important for preventing obesity and the diseases associated with it," concluded NIH Director Duane Alexander, M.D.
