DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA -- The City Council of Durham, North Carolina voted Monday to retain MV Transportation as the provider for the Durham Area Transportation Authority (DATA).
Under the terms of the new three-year, with two one-year options contract, MV will manage, operate and maintain the bus service.
"We are extremely elated the City Council chose to retain MV as its contractor," said Jon Monson, MV's Chief Executive Officer. "Not only have we improved the overall service, we have built strong relationships in the community and are committed to assisting the city in its efforts to make DATA the best bus system in North Carolina."
MV has managed the DATA service since 2004. Since that time, MV has been active in the community, supporting many local initiatives all while improving customer service. During the holiday season, the local drivers and staff adopted a family, collecting bicycles, toys, clothing and gift cards for a single mother and her three daughters.

In late 2006, the DATA Board of Trustees, a citizen advisory group whose members are appointed by the City Council and whose responsibility is to provide oversight of the DATA service, showed their support of MV by sending a letter to the Durham City Manager expressing their desire for MV to retain the contract.
The new contract will begin in October.
