University of Kansas Selects MV Transportation to Operate Transit Services

Jun 20, 2007

LAWRENCE, KANSAS -- The University of Kansas has selected MV Transportation to operate the institution's KU on Wheels transportation service.

Beginning August 1, MV will provide fixed-route, paratransit and park and ride services throughout the University. KU will provide the vehicles for this $3 million annual contract.

MV was selected to replace the Lawrence Bus Company, which had managed the service since 1960. MV will likely retain many current employees.

"We are excited about this contract award and are anxious to work in partnership with the University to increase ridership and improve the service," said Jon Monson, MV's Chief Executive Officer. "We will bring a fresh, new perspective to the system."

At full staff, MV will operate a university-owned fleet of about 30 buses and hire nearly 50 people. The KU system handles about 10,000 boardings every day. MV will utilize new technology to enhance performance and customer service giving riders the ability to receive notification of approaching buses.

MV currently operates the Lawrence Transit System under contract with the City of Lawrence, and has been recognized by the City for outstanding performance.
