Perkins Announces Presidential Bid, Running As The Forgotten Voter's Voice

Mar 12, 2008

HERMITAGE, TN -- Hailing "It's Your America! Take It Back!" Davidson County, TN resident, Bill Perkins, announces his campaign for President of the United States. Running as an independent, Perkins believes that the nation has hit a tipping point at which voters no longer feel they are a part of the democratic process.

"Voters are not stupid and we shouldn't be treated as though we are. The industry of politics, with its hundred million dollar campaigns, has alienated voters in lieu of corporate sponsorship. We must allow the forgotten voters an opportunity to feel directly involved in the political process or we will lose voter interest forever," Perkins states.

"We have finally hit a level technologically where voters can be directly involved demonstrating what is important to them on a real-time basis. If we can vote for the winner of American Idol, then we can also show our representatives and President how we really feel about issues. The days of straw polls should be over. If you vote for a candidate you should know exactly how they are voting, whether those votes line up with your needs, and let that candidate know that he or she isn't in line with the needs of constituents." Campaign reform and new online voter tools aren't the only things Perkins plans to pursue if elected.

Bill Perkins believes that sticking to party "politics as usual" limits the options that the nation can pursue and often leaves us at a stalemate, when a solution is what is really needed. Vowing to be pragmatic and open to any solution as long as it is the best solution, Perkins will address all issues facing Americans, from rising gas prices to the War in Iraq to the slowing economy.

He says, "By being an independent, I am freed from the concerns politicians face, such as raising funds for campaigning, satisfying the needs of large campaign donors, and adhering to the dictates of my political party. I can focus all of my time on the Presidency and none of my time worrying about keeping my party and my corporate sponsors happy."

Bill Perkins is not a politician. He has never sought political office, but finds himself uninspired by election after election of candidates who are bound by party lines and party money. Living in Hermitage, TN, the home of the 7th President of the U.S., Andrew Jackson, Perkins is inspired by the grassroots nature of our country's early elections, and has promised to run his campaign the same way. Beginning his campaign using just the Internet, www.perkinsforpresident.us, and media outlets, no paper or non-digital resources, Perkins says he is running with a budget of $500. He will not ask for donations, finding the hundreds of millions spent on the campaigns of other candidates to be both offensive and a waste of money that could go elsewhere. If interest in his campaign grows, and he can afford to do so, he will tour the country by bicycle, drumming up support and discovering what really matters to Americans and the solutions they suggest to our nations problems.
