2008 FA Cup Final Betting Preview

May 16, 2008

LONDON, ENGLAND -- The penultimate event of the 2007/2008 football season is scheduled for this weekend, with Wembley Stadium preparing to host the historic 2008 FA Cup final encounter between Portsmouth and Cardiff City.

The game will be the culmination of a season packed with major FA Cup upsets, which saw only one Premier League team advance through to the semi-final stages of the tournament. While Portsmouth survived to fly the Premiership flag at the FA Cup final, Cardiff City will be out to dismiss the notion that the Championship is a second-rate alternative to the Premier League.

Portsmouth will enter the 2008 FA Cup final as 8/11 favourites with William Hill. This is a fair price, given the fact that Pompey defeated a rampant Manchester United side to earn their place in the 2008 FA Cup semi-finals. Portsmouth's last appearance in the FA Cup finals was in 1939, when they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-1 to claim their only FA Cup title.

Cardiff City are also in the hunt for their second FA Cup title, having last appeared in a final in 1927 when they defeated Arsenal 1-0 at the Empire Wembley Stadium. The Welsh club have been priced 7/2 by William Hill, and will enter the game knowing that they have reached the final stage without encountering a top ranked Premiership side.

The 2008 FA Cup final is set to be a major betting event. Football fans are able to select from 15 exciting betting opportunities to test their knowledge of English football's most famous fixture. Scorecast bets look to be a particularly good betting option for the FA Cup final, with some great odds on offer from reputable bookmakers.
