BEVERLEY, UK -- Is Google Trends taking the fun out of watching Saturday night finals such as X Factor, Pop Idol & Britiain's Got Talent or is there still a need for a Nostradamus?
The answer is no. Firstly a NO for taking the "fun" out of Saturday night finals. Infact, I couldn't think of anything more boring to do on a Saturday night other than pulling my eye lashes out! That isn't however to take away anything from the winner, he is damn good and how the heck does he not break his back when he does that final flip?
Secondly, a no just because some of the... "talent" were basically... talentless - even when it came to picking a name for their band, group, pixie or whatever!
OK, so if you didn't know already, George Sampson was the winner of Britiain's Got Talent, so I thought, "Hey I know, I bet there is a direct connection between the amount of searches on Google for said person, to how many votes they will get when compared to the competition".
The above trends graph shows just that in the case of George Sampson vs Faryl Smith. So here, he does look like a clear winner. However, the downside of this is like I mentioned earlier - some of the acts have very common names or collective names such as "Strike" & "Signature" (who are awesome by the way!), which of course, many people will search for such terms and want to find stuff other than those connected to being finalists, thus putting such terms in Google Trends off the scale when compared to George Sampson.
So meh, just a slight flaw and possibly not worth taking up gambling just yet! :)
Role on X Factor - Hopefully the finalists will have the most obscure names to date, thus turning Google Trends in to Nostradamus for one night only.
