Chile Ranked #1 Global Sourcing Location in Latin American

Aug 25, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC -- Chile is ranked the #1 outsourcing location in Latin America in a recently released analysis of top outsourcing locations by SourcingLine, a leading publisher of global sourcing information.

Chile is to command a significant position among the top outsourcing nations in the world. The country has vaulted into the number one position in Latin America, ahead of more heavily populated Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Remarkably, Chile also scored the 14th highest spot against all thirty-eight outsourcing nations measured, including seven in LatAm and the Caribbean.

Chile's rise to the upper echelons of world outsourcing leaders may surprise many who had written the country off to mediocrity. It would appear that the challenges Chile has faced with respect to education and size of the workforce are being met and exceeded, according to SourcingLine.

While those of India, China and Indonesia dwarf the size of Chile's nascent outsourcing industry, the quality and utility of the spirited sector is not to be diminished. The nation appears to have caught the attention of the United States, the largest consumer of offshore services in the world. Chile has specifically targeted several U.S. industries rather than spreading themselves thinly across the entire spectrum of demand.

As the top exporter of copper in the world, the recent rise in prices has enabled the country to invest heavily in business process outsourcing and Internet technology. With stable political and economic environments, a strong telecom industry and the highest rates of Internet usage and broadband penetration in LatAm, Chile appears to be utilizing its small, but highly skilled workforce quite efficiently. In fact, SourcingLine ranks the country number six worldwide with respect to its Business and Economic Environment.

SourcingLine further notes that the areas where Chile is most in need of improvement include cost competiveness and resource availability, ranking just average in both categories.
