Creative Logic Technologies, Inc. Joins the LunchBox Brand

Apr 02, 2008

HARLAN, KENTUCKY -- Data Futures, Inc. today announces an agreement to purchase the school nutrition assets of Creative Logic Technologies, Inc. (CLT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Keck & Wood, Inc. Data Futures is the author of LunchBox, software for K-12 school nutrition management with installations in 41 states. CLT has school nutrition software installed in 75 Georgia districts representing 515 school sites.

LunchBox is used by school districts nationwide for point-of-sale (POS) at the cafeteria serving line, free and reduced meal application processing, inventory, menu planning, nutritional analysis and online payments. It is Web-based software that provides real-time communication and interaction between the district's central office and schools. LunchBox uses touch screen technology and offers optional biometrics, reimbursable meal vending, meal application scanning and on-line application processing.

All of CLT's school nutrition employees will join the staff of Data Futures and under the leadership of Cindy Pugh will operate a new LunchBox branch office in Atlanta, providing sales and support services for customers in Georgia and surrounding states.

Current CLT customers will continue to use their installed software but will have the option to add LunchBox features or to upgrade to LunchBox entirely. LunchBox is one of an elite group of USDA-approved software products that can be used by school districts to implement Nutrient Standard Menu Planning (NSMP), a guideline for K-12 schools in the U.S. Before USDA approval, the software is tested and evaluated for use in conducting nutrient analyses that meet School Meals Initiative requirements. This functionality has not been available to CLT users. Additional LunchBox customer care options will now be available to these users as well.

Together, LunchBox and CLT will continue to offer Internet payment capability that is popular with school districts and parents alike. This feature, which enables on-line depositing of funds in student accounts saves time for parents and lets schools operate more efficiently.

Bob Harris, Data Futures President, said: "We are excited about this excellent opportunity to join with a great team and a happy customer base to grow LunchBox and to bring us closer to our goal of achieving the #1 position in the school nutrition market."

LunchBox is installed in 3,581 schools across the United States. With the acquisition of CLT, its customer base will exceed 4,000 user sites. The expanded LunchBox presence in Georgia will be showcased at the state School Nutrition Association meeting in Savannah April 10-12.

Keck & Wood, Inc. provides a broad range of professional consulting services to customers requiring expertise in civil engineering, environmental engineering, natural gas engineering, surveying, community planning, mapping, GIS and related technical fields.

Data Futures has been working with K-12 school districts since its formation in 1983. The company has 40 employees. In addition to the corporate office in Harlan, KY, Data Futures has offices in Knoxville, TN, Kingsport, TN, Atlanta, GA and national presence through key business partner relationships in all major regions of the country. The LunchBox software brand has been marketed for over 13 years. Data Futures also owns and markets the CareScope brand, the leading provider of specialized administrative software used by the health care industry to coordinate care for the uninsured and underinsured.
