Chip Companies Partner to Offer Multi-Room Internet Radio

Jan 08, 2009

EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- Eleven Engineering Inc. (Canada) and Reciva Ltd. (UK) today announced their alliance to promote Reciva's Internet radio chipset with Eleven's digital wireless audio solutions.  The announcement signals an end to Reciva's search for a 2.4GHz wireless audio solution that
delivers excellent quality of service without disrupting Wi-Fi.  The alliance enables manufacturers to offer wireless distribution of Internet radio to every room in the house.

Technically, Eleven's ability to co-exist harmoniously with other 2.4GHz products such as Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi is why this partnership works.  The secret is Eleven's proprietary narrowband spread spectrum frequency hopping communications protocol, WFD™.  "Our customers
need a wireless solution which is very solid and which doesn't cause other wireless products they already own to fail.  We've tried others, but Eleven's is the only wireless solution we've found that meets our requirements", remarked Reciva CEO, Mr. Ben Terrell.

Typically, a base station incorporating the Reciva chipset will tune the Internet radio content and then use an embedded Eleven module to broadcast the audio to receivers located up to 50
meters away.  The receivers can take the form of stereo speakers or "line out" devices that feed the audio to existing amplified speakers.  The wireless audio can permeate walls, glass, ceilings, and intelligently avoid other devices using the same radio band.

Further, the receivers can support bi-directional data enabling local song and artist display and push-button controls to
switch Internet radio stations.  This product concept is a cost-optimal way to get Internet radio to multiple rooms with a minimal footprint in a very crowded 2.4GHz band.

The business synergies are apparent in both the size, culture, and success of Reciva and Eleven Engineering.  "We believe this partnership makes a lot of sense. Reciva and Eleven are
both leaders in their respective markets.  We are both very quality-centric and are serving first-tier customers today.  I expect this match up will come as very welcome news to our customers", said Eleven CEO John Sobota.
